Tucked between New Smyrna Beach and Titusville on Florida’s Space Coast, Mosquito Lagoon is hallowed ground for inshore anglers — and arguably the best redfish sight-fishing on the planet. Top Species
- Redfish — the main event. Sight-fish tailing and cruising reds over the flats; the lagoon is famous for oversized “bull” reds in big schools.

- The grass flats around Tiger Shoals & Shipyard Island — classic sight-fishing water.
- Canaveral National Seashore flats — protected, no-combustion-motor zones; pole or trolling-motor only in many areas.
- Sandy potholes & oyster bars — reds and trout sit in the white sandy holes; easy to spot fish against the light bottom.
- Mosquito impoundment edges — protected shorelines that hold fish when the wind blows.
Best Times to Fish
- Calm, sunny mornings are prime. Sight-fishing lives and dies on visibility — you need clear water, good light, and little wind to spot fish.
- Fall through spring brings the clearest water and the best sight-fishing; redfish school up tightly in winter.
- Summer: get out at first light before the wind, heat, and afternoon storms; fish the cooler edges of the day.
- Remember — it’s wind-driven, not tidal. Water here moves with the wind far more than the tide, so plan around the breeze and water clarity.

- Rod: a 7′ medium-light to medium fast spinning rod for long, accurate casts — the St. Croix Mojo Inshore is ideal.
